New Dog Wouldn’t Look Him in the Eye Because Her Past Left Her Defeated
Animal News by Animal News April 10, 2023 in News
For years, you would have thought Ruthie was a sad little brown dog, as she was so filthy from being kept in a muddy pen outdoors in all weather conditions, neglected and repeatedly bred, her litters taken away from her by a backyard breeder in Michigan.New Dog Wouldn’t Look Him in the Eye Because Her Past Left Her Defeated
But today, she’s unrecognizable—clean, healthy, loved, and living indoors with a new family who has pledged to protect her.New Dog Wouldn’t Look Him in the Eye Because Her Past Left Her DefeatedRuthie is one of 39 dogs seized by authorities and placed for adoption following a PETA undercover investigation into John D. Jones’ seedy breeding operation, JRT John’s Jack Russell Terriers.
PETA’s investigator documented that dozens of dogs were confined to small, barren kennels with little protection from the bitter cold and snow 24/7—conditions so dire that they prompted PETA supporters to hold a four-day sit-in at the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s office until it enforced the law against cruelty to animals.
Once rescued, Ruthie’s trauma was so deep that it took her some time to adjust to life indoors with her guardians, Kenny and Nikki Carney, and her new “grandmother,” Eleanor.
As Kenny explains in the video, Ruthie had spent “five or six years without having a name or a toy.”
Whereas she once ran away or avoided eye contact, her new family and a pair of other dogs in the home soon showed her how to feel safe.
“They pretty much taught her the ins and outs of everything here,” Kenny says of her new canine companions.New Dog Wouldn’t Look Him in the Eye Because Her Past Left Her Defeated

“Ruthie found love, but as long as people buy from breeders rather than adopting from shelters, other wonderful dogs will be caged or penned in puppy mills and deprived of the care and love they need,” says PETA Senior vice president Daphna Nachminovitch.“PETA reminds everyone that breeders see dogs as breeding machines, there simply to churn out pups for them to sell.”
“Ruthie is the first of many rescues,” Kenny says through tears. “And I hope that somehow her experience can help others just bridge the gap.”

Dog Fighting Ring Dumped Pit Bull In The Garbage, But Nobody Stopped To Help Her
Animal News by Animal News April 10, 2023 in NewsThe dog finally saw a woman who she believed could help her, and so she began wagging her tail vigorously to signal that she was still alive and breathing!
Around four years ago, Mercy Hell Bull was dumped among a pile of garbage by a private roadside in Echo Lake, Texas. The area was known to be a serious hub for canine fighting rings.

For several days, the disoriented and paralyzed Mercy waited helplessly in the pee and feces, but no one bothered to prevent and check on her.Dog Fighting Ring Dumped Pit Bull In The Garbage, But Nobody Stopped To Help HerMercy had lost all hopes of survival by the time she was spotted by Judy Obregon, the founding mother of “The Abandoned Ones (TAO) Animal Rescue.”
The moment Judy approached the abandoned pooch, the weak and incapacitated creature began wagging her tail vigorously to signal that she was alive and breathing. Now, she must be so scared and lonely. Judy quickly brought the sickly pit bull to her vehicle to drive her to the hospital. She was shocked when a terrified Mercy extended her paw to her rescuer and asked her to carry it.
Judy adoringly comforted the pooch for the remainder of the ride and ensured her that she was in good hands.Dog Fighting Ring Dumped Pit Bull In The Garbage, But Nobody Stopped To Help Her
At the hospital, the veterinarian confirmed that Mercy had not been struck by a car, but had several old and new fractures that indicated prolonged abuse.
The dog was placed on an extensive healing plan, but she could hardly eat or carry out bowel movements throughout the primary couple of days of her treatment.

Over months of surgeries, monitoring and rehab, Mercy awarded her caretakers with the easiest gift ever – she began walking on her own!The video below not only documents her triumphant healing, but also shows the brilliant girl she has blossomed right into today in her permanent home!
The most powerful aspect of Mercy’s trip is her emotional attachment to her pink rabbit plush toy that was provided to her by Judy after her rescue. She has had the toy for four years, and she never ever lets it go. For Mercy, the toy will always be the symbol of hope and faith even in the darkest of times!
Mercy’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals, even in the face of terrible abuse and neglect. Her ability to trust and love again after such a traumatic experience is a testament to the healing power of compassion and care.
If you’re interested in helping animals like Mercy, consider volunteering or donating to a local animal rescue organization or shelter. Every little bit can make a difference in the lives of these deserving creatures.
And always remember to treat animals with the kindness and respect they deserve, whether they’re pets in our homes or strays on the streets. Together, we can create a world where all animals are valued and protected.
